Bikini Kill ‘Reject All American’ (KRS)– BK’s last record may have not been as gritty, confrontational, and brute as their other political manifestos, but they sure as hell made a damn good album of the more pop, less noise get-up. ‘Reject All American’ has the girlie sass of the Go-Go’s and the sharp energetic rock of the Kinks, with a fresher smarter political slant that they are best known for. A definite thumbs up. link (S)

Discordance Axis ‘The Inalienable Dreamless’ (on Hydrahead) – GRINDCORE. The most brutal grindcore you will ever hear with inhumanly fast drumming and pounding brutal guitar riffs that stab you in the ear drum. Brutal. (G)

Hot Cross ‘A New Set of Lungs’ 10" – Bad ass, post-hardcore, screamy, rock assault from people in other screamo bands not to be mentioned. Awesome dual guitar acrobatics in both melody and insanity, and song structure/lyric placement that far surpasses the descriptions "catchy" or "memorable." Stuck in your head for weeks. (G)

Joan Jett ‘Bad Reputation’ – Joan Jett. The feel-good guitar goddess, in leather pants, ratted hair, and black eyeliner, at her finest. This is rock n roll. Some of her best rock outfits are included on this record (“You Don’t Know What You Got (Til It’s Gone)”, “Bad Reputation”, etc), not to mention that she does really rad covers, especially the Gary Glitter ones, with all their hand-clapping and “yeah”s. Before she adapted that total cock rock thing, and brought a more of bubble gum Ramones feel to the kids, with her own twist. This is the record that put JJ on the map of rock. (S)
